If you read my story about spring color in the paper today, I mention construction workers and road crews as models for the bright, traffic-stopping colors of spring in their chartreuse, lime and orange safety colors. I wasn't kidding. Just take a look at the photo below and compare with the brights you're starting to see on the streets, on people who don't have to be overly cautious about being seen by drivers.

Tuesday was the vernal equinox, marking the beginning of spring in the Northern hemisphere, and the official start of the new fashion season. Ala Moana Center celebrates spring's arrival every year with Shop A Le'a, a week of fashionable soirees, shopping events and shows that began March 19 and continues through the 25th, highlighted by retailer fashion shows on Saturday and Sunday, as well as Center Stage appearances by "Project Runway" Season 8 and All-Stars competitor Michael Costello at 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday. Tune in to "Project Runway All-Stars" on Lifetime tonight to see if he wins the competition. It would be great if he wins, making the Honolulu appearances his first post-win. Of course he would have to beat Austin Scarlett, a star in his own right, and fan favorite Mondo Guerra, who we saw on Center Stage and the Honolulu Community College stage last year, as a guest of fellow competitor Andy South.

safetyWhile photographing Mila Kelsey for Old Navy, as seen in today's paper, we met up with construction, fire and electrical workers Mike Seper, Ian Hoy and Josh Moniz in their work clothes that are inadvertently in line with spring's color trends!

Shop A Le'a fun started with a Posh Pau Hana event March 20 on the third-floor Nordstrom wing, a social media gathering to get the buzz going. Vendors such as Nordstrom, Anteprima Wirebag, Maui Divers and Max & Co., shared some their latest collections, while guests in spring's pink, orange and yellow hues enjoyed cocktails and cuisine from Romano's Macaroni Grill.

There's a lot more to come. Keep up with all the event updates and special offers on the Ala Moana website: http://www.alamoanacenter.com/Shop-a-Lea-2012/
