Moanalua students in running for VANS top prize

Designs by Moanalua High School, entered into the VANS Custom Culture competition. Voting in the competition ends May 3.

There's some amazing art talent at Moanalua High School, which is among the 50 high schools nationwide that have made it into the finals of the VANS Custom Culture competition.

Voting for the winning school is taking place online at for the chance to win $50,000 for their high school art program. The winning school's four designs will be made available at retail later this year.

Out of 1,000 submissions, only the top 50 made it to the public vote, with five regional winners to be selected. Hawaii is included in the Southwest region. (Our closest neighbor in sun-and-surf style is California, which in this competition is considered a region unto itself.)

The five winning schools will be granted a travel budget for a showcase in Los Angeles, where celebrity judges will help pick the winner. The four runners-up will receive $4,000 for their school.

The annual competition invites high school students across the United States to embrace creativity.Voting closes on May 3.
